Creating Trauma-Informed Classrooms

What changes when classrooms are designed not just for learning—but for safety, regulation, and belonging?

CATEGORY: Educator Support and Capacity Building

LENGTH: 3 hours

Now more than ever, educators are witnessing the impact of trauma on students, families, and on themselves. This three-hour workshop supports educators in strengthening and adapting existing practices through a trauma-informed lens. Participants explore how stress and trauma affect learning, behaviour, and relationships, and how classrooms can become spaces of emotional and psychological safety. Grounded in the principles of safety, choice, and control, the training offers practical strategies that are realistic for today’s classrooms. Stories and examples from schools across Alberta and beyond provide real-world relevance and support the translation of trauma-informed principles into everyday educational practice.
